• Senator Addresses Nursing Shortage

    The National Nursing Reform and Patient Advocacy Act was introduced by U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) on May 13, 2009. This bill (S1031) is an amendment to the Public Health services Act and would address the nursing shortage which we all know is key to the success of any health care reform to be undertaken in this country.   • GMA Airs Segment on Denture Cream Poisonings

    Last week, Good Morning America aired a segment on zinc poisoning as a side effect of overuse of denture creams. They interviewed Ellen Isaacs, a patient suffering from neurological symptoms as well as Eric Chaffin, a partner at Bernstein Liebhard LLP, who has filed several lawsuits against the makers of Super PolyGrip and Fixodent for not warning consumers about the possible risks of overdose of zinc from using too much of their product.     As Nurses Week continues, let’s remember that nursing is not a gender, it is a profession. In fact, the first nurses were men, and men dominated the nursing profession for centuries. Today, men make up about 6-7% of the civilian nursing workforce in the U.S. In the U.S. military, men make up about 35% of the nursing workforce. The art of nursing is not just for women.
