Nursing schools are impacted and many have long waiting lists. Each year schools turn away thousands of qualified students. Make sure you do everything in your power to be accepted! You should also carefully consider the list of schools that don’t have a waiting list. Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket, apply to several to improve your chances of being accepted.

I know of a few people who applied for nursing school and respiratory therapy school at the same time. Their ultimate goal was to become a nurse. They were put on a waiting list for the nursing school but were accepted for the respiratory therapy school. They finished nursing school and eventually they were accepted to a nursing school. Had they not been accepted, at least they still had a profession in the medical field which they wanted. This also opened up options for them to apply to an alternative nursing school, distance learning.
