There is good legislation in the federal and state legislatures regarding a National Nurse for Pubic Health, safe staffing, school nurses, allowing NPs to order home health care, and many other nursing issues. I encourage you to get involved in these campaigns and work to improve nursing for yourselves and all nurses. In turn it will improve patient care. Today begins the annual week long celebration of the nursing profession. No you won’t be buried in lavish gifts! If you’re really lucky perhaps you”ll receive a small token of appreciation and maybe a buffet of breakfast or lunch. Help Support National Nurse Act for 2011
In celebrating National Nurses Day and Nurses Week, we need to advocate for our profession and for our patients. A National Nurse would help us to promote the wellness model and move away from the sick care model of health care. This would bring about a healthier population and one focused on prevention and wellness. In turn this would help to reduce the costs of health care.
