    Nurses Week 2018 is rapidly approaching. May 6-12  each year is set aside to honor the nursing profession. The American Nurses Association theme for 2018 is Nurses Inspire Innovate Influence.  This certainly captures nursing and what nurses do every day! It should be an easy theme to build your celebration around. Every year I hear more and more nurses grumble because nothing was done for them!   • It’s International Nurses Day

    Wishing nurses everywhere a Happy International Nurses Day. May 12 is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale who is often referred to as the founder of nursing for her contributions to the nursing profession. One of the things Ms. Nightingale is credited with is bringing infection control measures to the battlegrounds of Turkey during the Crimean war. Many lives were saved as a result of her efforts to teach about improving sanitary conditions and clean techniques. Many oppose using Ms. Nightingale as a representative of the nursing profession for being out of touch with today’s nurses.   • Nurses Day and Nurses Week Themes Announced

    Annual celebrations of the nursing profession will take place in a few weeks. In the U.S., National Recognition Day for Nurses (aka Nurses Day) is May 6 and Nurses Week is May 6-12. In 1996, the American Nurses Association initiated National RN Recognition Day as May 6 as well. May 12 is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. In honor of this, the International Council of Nurses recognizes May 12 each year since 1965 as International Nurses Day.
