One of the things I find most annoying as I listen to, or overhear, nurses discussing a patient who is “profoundly hard of hearing” and the fact that they find it almost impossible to communicate with the patient. From the other side of the scenario, I have had too many experiences with family members who are moderately hard of hearing to totally deaf.
